In May, the Illinois Legislature fulfilled its constitutional responsibility and approved a new set of legislative district maps. I joined my colleagues in voting for these new maps, because they appropriately reflect the communities I serve. (You can read my full statement on the new maps here.)
Earlier this month, the U.S. Census Bureau released new data to be considered in the legislative remapping process. In response, the Senate and House Redistricting Committees will hold a series of public hearings over the next week to consider potential changes to the new legislative boundaries.
I encourage you to take time to watch these hearings, which will be available to stream on the General Assembly website www.ilga.gov. Please share this hearing schedule with anyone in our community who is interested in the redistricting process:
- Thursday, Aug. 26 at 1 p.m. – Joint House and Senate Hearing
